About
the Faculty of Homeopathy
The
South African Faculty of Homeopathy is a registered Private Higher Education
Institute that provides training in homeopathy for medical doctors registered
with the Health Professions Council (HPCSA), and offers homeopathic
continuing professional development (CPD) seminars and courses for qualified
medical and professional homeopaths.
The objective of the Faculty is to ensure the highest standards of homeopathic
education, training, and practice by homeopathic professionals, to promote
homeopathic research, and to spread knowledge of the science and art
of homeopathy, and awareness of its benefits, amongst doctors, medical
undergraduates, the allied professions, and the public.
The Faculty was founded in 2001. It developed from successful postgraduate
courses, which commenced in 1994 and ran continuously in Johannesburg
and Cape Town until 2001. The Faculty course is accredited by the British
Faculty of Homeopathy and by the Allied Health Professions Council of
South Africa (AHPCSA). On successful completion of the course, graduates
are awarded the diplomas of the SA Faculty of Homeopathy (DFHom.SA)
and the British Faculty (MFHom. UK) and are eligible for registration
as homeopaths with AHPCSA.
The Faculty course is presented at two centres - Johannesburg and Cape
Town. A new course is commenced whenever a sufficient number of applicants
have enrolled. The course is in modular form (eight weekend modules
per year) and extends over three years.
In the years since the homeopathic training of medical doctors commenced
in South Africa, there has been a steady increase of interest in homeopathy,
both from within the medical profession and the public. The South African
Faculty is in a position to provide for this interest and need.
